Privacy Policy for the “Fisha” App

No data protection officer has been appointed, as there is no legal obligation to do so.
2. Summary
- Fisha does not collect personal data and does not transfer photos, videos or information about you to us or to third parties.
- There is no user account, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party analytics or crash-reporting tools.
- All features – search, filters, image analysis – run exclusively on your device.
- We do not operate a server for the app.
3. Access to your photo library
Fisha needs access to your photo library to display, search and – at your request – edit photos and videos (e.g. add them to albums, mark them as favorites, hide, delete, share).
- Access is granted via the iOS system prompt and can be changed or revoked at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Fisha.
- Fisha reads information provided by iOS such as capture date, media type, resolution, file name, file size, location (if stored in the photo) and camera and lens details (EXIF data).
- This data does not leave your device. Nothing is transmitted to us.
Fisha only changes your library (e.g. deletes items) after an explicit action by you. Deletions are additionally confirmed by iOS; deleted items stay in the "Recently Deleted" album for 30 days.
Back up (from version 1.1): If you use "Back Up …", Fisha copies the selected photos and videos as original files into a folder that you choose yourself (e.g. on a USB drive, hard drive, network drive or in a cloud folder such as iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive). Fisha also creates a backup list there (Fisha-Sicherung.csv/.json) with file names, capture date, capture location, checksum, favorite status and album names. Fisha itself transfers nothing to us. If the folder belongs to a cloud provider, that provider's app uploads the files; its privacy policy applies. On your device, Fisha remembers the chosen folder (as an iOS bookmark), which photos are backed up there and which you marked for deletion.
Converting Live Photos: If you use this feature, Fisha creates a new still image on your device for each selected Live Photo, keeping the original's capture date, location, favorite status and album membership. The originals are then – after confirmation by iOS – moved to "Recently Deleted". No data is transferred in this process either.
4. On-device image analysis
For the features "Failed shots", "Similar photos" and "Image content", Fisha analyzes downscaled previews of your photos with Apple's image analysis framework ("Vision"), which runs entirely on the device. No faces are recognized and no persons are identified.
The results (e.g. sharpness value, brightness, recognized image categories such as "beach", file size, camera and lens name) are cached only locally in the app's storage on your device so that later searches are faster. They are deleted when you delete the app.
4a. Text recognition (optional, off by default)
Text recognition is disabled by default and only becomes active if you explicitly turn it on. Before you turn it on, Fisha shows which photos are affected ("Screenshots only" or "All photos") and roughly how long the first read will take.
- Fisha reads text in your photos using Apple's text recognition ("Vision"), which runs entirely on the device. No images or texts are transferred.
- The recognized text is stored locally so searches are fast. This file is protected by iOS data encryption (readable only while the device is unlocked) and is excluded from iCloud and device backups, because photos – such as screenshots – may contain confidential content like addresses, account numbers or login details.
- Under "Text recognition" in the app you can turn the feature off at any time and delete all recognized text. It is also deleted when you delete the app.
- When you view individual photos via "Text in photo" or share the text of selected photos via "Export text", the text is only produced at your request; you decide where you share the text file.
5. Locally stored settings
Fisha stores on your device:
- display settings (e.g. number of columns),
- filters you have saved,
- a cache of place names for the places list,
- if enabled: recognized text (encrypted, no backup, see 4a),
- the analysis cache described above,
- a list of photos you deliberately kept during review (only their internal iOS identifiers, no image content), so Fisha doesn't suggest them again. This list is excluded from backups and can be deleted in Settings under "Forget remembered decisions",
- a statistic of how many items you have deleted with Fisha and how much storage you have freed,
- diagnostic reports from iOS (at most 20, see section 10) and a short list of self-check results,
- while converting Live Photos, a list of the identifiers of each original and its new still, so an interrupted conversion can be finished or undone cleanly the next time the app starts. It is deleted afterwards.
This data is not transmitted to us. Depending on your iOS settings, it may become part of your iCloud or device backup with Apple; Apple's privacy policy applies to that.
6. Apple's map service (place names and place search)
For two features, Fisha uses Apple's map service (Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland):
- Places list ("Places in your photos"): To convert coordinates into place names, Fisha sends the rounded coordinates (approx. 10 km accuracy) of up to 40 places to Apple.
- Place search in the filter: If you enter a place name (e.g. "Lake Garda"), this search term is sent to Apple to determine its coordinates.
No photos and no information about you are transmitted. For technical reasons, Apple receives your IP address. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the feature you requested) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a convenient place search). Information on privacy at Apple: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
The places list is only loaded when you open it; the place search only when you enter a place.
7. Sharing and exporting
When you share photos via "Share / Export", Fisha creates temporary copies of the original files on your device and hands them to the iOS share sheet. Where the files go (e.g. AirDrop, Mail, Files app) is decided solely by you. The respective service is then responsible for further processing.
8. Siri, Shortcuts and widget
Fisha provides actions for the Shortcuts app and Siri as well as a widget. These only open the app with a specific search. No data is transferred to us. Voice commands are processed by Apple via Siri.
9. App Store and purchases
Fisha is distributed via Apple's App Store. When you download the app and make in-app purchases (e.g. "Fisha Pro"), Apple processes data (e.g. Apple ID, payment details) under its own responsibility. Whether you have purchased Fisha Pro is checked by the app via Apple's purchase interface (StoreKit) directly on your device; nothing is transmitted to us. We only receive anonymized, aggregated sales and download statistics from Apple that don't allow any conclusions about you. Crash reports you voluntarily share in iOS settings ("Share With App Developers") are provided to us by Apple in anonymized form.
10. Contact by email
Via "Send Feedback …" in Settings, Fisha opens your mail app with a prepared message containing the app version, device type and iOS version. Only what you send yourself is sent.
Diagnostic reports (only at your request): Through Apple's "MetricKit" interface, iOS provides Fisha with reports about crashes, hangs, unusually high CPU usage and disk writes. These reports contain technical information (e.g. app version, iOS version, device model, stack traces of the program), but no photos, no image content, no file names and no information about you. Fisha also notes its own self-check results (e.g. "cache damaged, rebuilt"). Fisha keeps at most 20 such reports only locally on your device; older ones are deleted automatically. There is no automatic transmission. Only if you tap "Send Diagnostics …" under "Diagnostics" in Settings does Fisha open an email with the reports attached, which you can review, edit or discard before sending. The legal basis for processing an email sent this way is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (your consent by sending it) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in fixing bugs). We use the reports solely to find bugs in Fisha and delete them once that is done. After sending, you can delete the reports from your device; they are also deleted when you delete the app.
If you contact us by email, we process your email address and the content of your message solely to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). The data is deleted once the request has been dealt with and no statutory retention obligations apply.
11. Your rights
As Fisha doesn't transfer any personal data about you to us, we generally hold no data about you. Regardless of this, under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, e.g. the authority responsible for your place of residence or: The State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Rhineland-Palatinate (Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Rheinland-Pfalz), Hintere Bleiche 34, 55116 Mainz, Germany.
Deleting local data: You can completely remove all data stored by Fisha (settings, saved filters, analysis cache, recognized text, list of kept photos) by deleting the app. Your photos are not affected.
12. Children
Fisha is not specifically aimed at children and does not collect data from children.
13. Changes
We update this privacy policy when the app or the legal situation changes. The current version is always available at https://fisha.info/en/privacy.html and in the app.
